I've Decided on the .308

Over the last year + I've been shopping around for a .308 / 7.62X51 rifle, I really really wanted an AR10 built in similar fashion to my Noveske is set up, but by lo and behold after putting together my final build sheet of parts / features etc. I was up to around $1800 to re-equip a DPMS or Armalite AR10A. $3500 if I wanted someone to build the gun from scratch with a better barrel and trigger group. After seeing the writing on the wall I'm just going to start the ball rolling on acquiring a SCAR-17S, the few items I'll want to add I can do over time.

  2. So, what time will you be in my neck of the woods? Too bad I'm stuck on call this weekend. BTW, they close at 4 on Saturday.

    1. I'm probably going to be going with my guy in Baxter for this. I've been bothering him for months about pricing on X, Y, and Z.

Got to move some other stuff before picking up the SCAR, probably won't be purchasing for a month maybe two.

    3. They said that one was reserved and that the distributor didn't have any more. Could order one, but no idea when it would be in.

    1. I like the mid-range/multi-purpose 1-4 style scopes. There's a lot of flat land out here and the ability to have something that works as a red dot and some magnification all in one package is appealing, I like the concept of the Aimpoint & Magnifier but I just hat the way they look and don't care for the magnifier to be hanging off the side when not in use.

I've been using a Millet DMS to see how I like the set up and I do, but I find the 1-4X a little wanting so I'm looking at the newer 1-6X options. The Bushnell Elite, SWFA 1-6 (still being worked on) as well as some offerings from US Optics in the 1.5-6X category are all being considered. I don't like all the clutter in the CRSC retilce. Maybe the Vortex Razor II HD in 1-6X.

If for some reason I decide to stick with the 1-4X I'll probably go with the TR24 w/ red chevron.

  4. Nice choice since you live in a free-state! I would have to build a CA-legal gray market job.

    1. If it's any consolation, we still can't have SBRs or suppressors in Iowa. :(
